Work experience

We recognise the challenges faced by students seeking industry experience. We also believe that we play a part in preparing the next generation of disability support professionals. While we cannot currently offer ongoing employment, we do welcome vocational and university students who would like to undertake work experience or who have research projects we might be able to assist with.

Our team travel often, so we do not always have on-site opportunities. However, we welcome your enquiries and will do our best to accommodate.

Is your course eligible?

We can offer experience for people who are studying in the following fields:

  • disability support work

  • community service sector experience

  • human service sector management and leadership.

Will I be paid?

No. We cannot currently offer paid work experience. However, you will not be undertaking any tasks that contribute to the profitability of our service. You will be observing experienced support workers and managers in action, given opportunities to practice skills you have learned in your studies and to expand on those skills. For example, if you are studying to be a disability support worker, you might have the opportunity to support a person with a PEG under close supervision and guidance.

We are not advertising work experience to get free work. Our sole motivation is to support the industry to have access to highly skills workers for the future.

What information should I include?

In your email, please include:

  • Your full name and contact details (phone and email)

  • The name of your course and what stage of study you are at

  • The name of your college or university, including contact details for your course convenor or work experience coordinator

  • A brief cover letter (maximum 1 page) explaining why you would like to complete work experience with us

  • A copy of your resume or CV.
